In Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, what is the name of the island where unwanted toys are sent?

The story behind the answer

In Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, unwanted toys are sent to the Island of Misfit Toys.

The island is home to toys with unusual characteristics that make them seem unsuitable for ordinary children. Its ruler, King Moonracer, searches for misfit toys and brings them to the island while hoping to find children who will accept them.

The setting adds a message about kindness and belonging to the stop-motion special. Rudolph, who is rejected because of his glowing nose, recognizes the toys’ loneliness. His own experience helps him understand that being different does not make someone worthless.

The 1964 television special was produced by Rankin/Bass and narrated by Sam the Snowman, voiced by Burl Ives. The special is based on the 1949 song by Johnny Marks, which itself drew on the 1939 booklet Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Robert L. May. The island became one of the special’s most enduring locations.
