In James Cameron’s Titanic, which actress played Rose DeWitt Bukater?

The story behind the answer

Kate Winslet played Rose DeWitt Bukater in James Cameron’s Titanic.

Rose is the film’s fictional central character, a 17-year-old first-class passenger traveling aboard the RMS Titanic. The story follows her relationship with Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, during the ship’s maiden voyage in April 1912.

Winslet was 21 when Titanic was released. Her performance helped establish her as an international star, and she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. The film also featured an older Rose, portrayed by Gloria Stuart, who narrates much of the story from the present day.

A common mix-up is confusing Rose with the real-life survivors and passengers who inspired parts of the film. Rose herself is fictional, although the film places her among real historical events and figures. Titanic became one of the defining films of the 1990s and reunited Winslet with DiCaprio in later projects, including Revolutionary Road.
