In James Cameron’s Titanic, what is the name of the diamond necklace known as the Heart of the Ocean?

The story behind the answer

The diamond necklace in James Cameron’s Titanic is called the Heart of the Ocean.

The Heart of the Ocean is a fictional blue diamond pendant central to the film’s framing story. The elderly Rose tells Brock Lovett’s treasure hunters about her time aboard Titanic, and the necklace becomes a link between her memories and their search for valuable artifacts.

In the film’s historical setting, Cal Hockley gives the necklace to Rose before the ship leaves Southampton. It later becomes associated with the dramatic events surrounding Jack, Rose, and the sinking. The jewel is a storytelling device rather than a documented object recovered from the real Titanic.

The necklace is sometimes confused with the Hope Diamond, a real blue diamond with its own history. Titanic’s Heart of the Ocean was inspired partly by famous blue diamonds but was created for the fictional plot.
