In Home Alone, Kevin McCallister's mother's first name is Kate.
Kate McCallister is played by Catherine O'Hara. At the beginning of the film, she and her family prepare for a Christmas trip to Paris, but Kevin is left behind after a chaotic night and a mistaken head count.
Kate realizes Kevin is missing during the flight and spends much of the story trying to return to Chicago. Her determination is a major part of the film's emotional structure, balancing the slapstick scenes involving Kevin and the burglars.
Viewers sometimes remember Kate mainly as “Kevin's mom” because the family has several children and the film focuses on Kevin. Her husband is Peter McCallister, played by John Heard. O'Hara returned as Kate in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
