In Hercules, what is the name of the winged horse?

The story behind the answer

In Hercules, the winged horse is Pegasus. He is Hercules’ loyal childhood friend and later becomes his flying companion.

In Disney’s 1997 film, Pegasus is created by Zeus and given to Hercules when Zeus sends his son to train with the satyr Philoctetes. Pegasus helps connect Hercules to his divine family and accompanies him during his journey to become a true hero.

The character draws on Pegasus from Greek mythology, where Pegasus is a divine winged horse associated with the hero Bellerophon. Disney changes the traditional mythology considerably: its Pegasus is a spirited, expressive companion who communicates through gestures and sounds rather than spoken dialogue.

A common mix-up is confusing Pegasus with Philoctetes, usually called Phil, who trains Hercules, or with Pain and Panic, Hades’ comic henchmen. Megara is Hercules’ human love interest, not the flying horse. Pegasus also appears in other Disney works, but this version is specifically the white, blue-winged companion from Hercules.
