Chrysaor emerged from Medusa’s body when Perseus cut off her head.
Greek myth says Medusa was carrying the offspring of Poseidon when Perseus killed her. From the severed Gorgon came two extraordinary beings: Pegasus, the winged horse, and Chrysaor, a warrior often described as golden-sworded or born with a golden sword.
Chrysaor is less familiar than Pegasus and appears only briefly in many retellings. His name is commonly translated as “golden sword,” linking him with the weapon or golden blade suggested by his mythic identity. He later became the father of the giant Geryon in accounts influenced by Hesiod.
Chrysaor is not the same figure as Perseus. Perseus was the human hero who performed the beheading; Chrysaor was the supernatural child released by Medusa’s death.
