In Greek mythology, where did Perseus find Medusa and the other Gorgons?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Perseus found Medusa and the other Gorgons at the edge of the world. The Gorgons were placed in a remote region far from the ordinary human world.

The location is described broadly in ancient sources rather than as one consistently named modern place. Perseus first had to discover their whereabouts through the Graeae, sisters who possessed special knowledge and shared one eye and one tooth.

Later retellings often relocate the Gorgons to an island or give them a precise geographic setting. Those versions should not be treated as a single universal location. The most stable classical description is the remote edge of the inhabited world.
