In Greek mythology, what was the name of Perseus’s wife, whom he rescued from a sea monster?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Perseus’s wife was Andromeda, whom he rescued from a sea monster.

Andromeda was the daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia’s boast that Andromeda surpassed the Nereids angered Poseidon, who sent a sea monster against the kingdom. Andromeda was chained to a rock as a sacrifice when Perseus encountered her after returning from the Gorgon quest.

Perseus used Medusa’s head to defeat the monster or to turn it to stone, depending on the version. He then married Andromeda. Their story is distinct from Perseus’s relationship with Danaë, his mother, and from Ariadne’s story with Theseus. In later Greek tradition, Perseus and Andromeda became the parents of several important figures, including Perses and the ancestor of Heracles.
