In Greek mythology, what was the name of Medusa’s son who became the father of the three-bodied giant Geryon?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Chrysaor was Medusa’s son and the father of the three-bodied giant Geryon.

Chrysaor was born from Medusa’s body when Perseus beheaded her, according to the mythic genealogy preserved by Hesiod. His name is commonly translated as “golden sword,” linking him with a weapon-like image from the moment of his birth. He is usually presented as the brother of Pegasus, the winged horse.

Chrysaor is less famous than Pegasus because he rarely appears as an active character in surviving stories. His importance comes mainly from genealogical connections. With Callirrhoe, he fathered Geryon, the formidable three-bodied ruler whose cattle were later taken by Heracles as one of his labors.

Chrysaor should not be confused with Perseus, who killed Medusa, or with Pegasus, who was born at the same moment. The name refers to the human or warrior-like son, not the winged creature.
