In Genesis’s post-Flood story, Ham saw Noah uncovered in his tent and told his brothers.
Genesis 9 recounts the incident after Noah planted a vineyard and became drunk. Ham, identified as Noah’s son, saw his father uncovered and reported it to Shem and Japheth, who responded by covering Noah while avoiding looking at him. The story then records Noah’s words concerning his sons and their descendants.
The passage names Ham as the son who saw Noah, while Shem and Japheth are described as the brothers who covered their father. Those roles are easy to reverse when the story is remembered only in summary.
The episode is separate from the Flood itself and occurs after the Ark has come to rest and the family has begun life on land. It is also distinct from later traditions that attach additional interpretations or details to Ham’s conduct; Genesis itself gives the concise account in chapter 9.
