In Genesis’s Noah’s Ark story, Ham is linked to the ancestry of Canaan. Genesis 10:6 lists Canaan among Ham’s sons, after the Flood narrative introduces Noah’s three sons.
Genesis 10, often called the Table of Nations, names descendants associated with different peoples and regions. Ham’s other listed sons are Cush, Mizraim, and Put. Canaan is especially significant in the biblical geography of the Levant and in later stories involving the Israelites.
This genealogy is separate from the question of which sons were aboard the Ark: Shem, Ham, and Japheth are all named as Noah’s sons and survivors. Another common confusion comes from Genesis 9, where Noah’s curse is directed at Canaan after an incident involving Ham; the text does not call the curse a curse on Ham himself.
