In Genesis's Noah's Ark story, where did the ark come to rest after the floodwaters receded?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis's Noah's Ark story, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 says that the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat on the seventeenth day of the seventh month. The wording is plural: it identifies a mountainous region rather than naming one confirmed peak.

Ararat is associated with the ancient kingdom and geographical region of Urartu, generally connected with areas around modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and neighboring lands. Mount Ararat later became the most famous proposed location for the ark, but Genesis itself does not say “Mount Ararat.”

That distinction helps avoid a common overstatement. Archaeologists and explorers have repeatedly reported alleged ark discoveries, yet no discovery has been scientifically verified as Noah's Ark. The biblical location is the mountains of Ararat, not a proven archaeological site.
