In Genesis’s Noah’s Ark story, what did Noah plant after the Flood?
Answer
A vineyard
Answer
A vineyard
Genesis says Noah planted a vineyard after the Flood. Genesis 9:20 introduces this episode after the covenant, identifying Noah as a farmer who planted a vineyard.
The following verses say Noah drank wine made from the vineyard and became drunk, then lay uncovered inside his tent. The account connects Noah’s post-Flood agriculture with the story involving his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. It does not say that he planted an olive grove, even though an olive leaf appeared earlier in the dove episode.
That distinction matters because the olive leaf is one of the most recognizable Ark images, while the vineyard belongs to a later scene after Noah and his family have left the vessel. The two plants occur in separate parts of Genesis 8 and 9.
The vineyard episode is also different from the Ark’s food provisions. Genesis says food was taken aboard before the Flood, but it identifies Noah’s later planting specifically as a vineyard.
