In Genesis, which window did Noah open before sending out a raven from the Ark?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah opened the window in the Ark before sending out a raven.

Genesis 8:6 says that after 40 days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark. He first sent out a raven, which went back and forth until the waters dried from the earth. He later sent a dove on repeated flights to assess the condition of the land.

The window is distinct from the ark’s door. Genesis 7:16 says that God shut Noah in, and Genesis 8:16 later tells Noah to leave the ark. The story therefore presents separate openings with different narrative roles.

Readers sometimes combine the raven and dove episodes, but Genesis describes them as separate actions. The olive leaf belongs to the later dove episode, not the raven’s first release.
