Genesis identifies Ham as the father of Canaan after the Flood.
Genesis 9:18 names Noah’s sons as Shem, Ham, and Japheth, then specifically says Ham was the father of Canaan. The statement introduces the episode in which Noah becomes drunk after planting a vineyard and later pronounces words concerning his sons and Canaan.
This is a genealogy and narrative relationship, not a claim that Canaan was one of Noah’s sons. Canaan is Ham’s son in the passage. The story has also been used in later history to support interpretations that go beyond what the text says, including the discredited “curse of Ham” tradition. Genesis itself says Noah cursed Canaan, not Ham, which is an important distinction when identifying the family relationships in the chapter.
