In Genesis, Ham became the ancestor of Canaan.
Genesis 10:6 lists Canaan among the sons of Ham, alongside Cush, Mizraim, and Put. Because the genealogy follows the Flood narrative, Ham is identified as one of Noah’s three sons who survived the Flood aboard the Ark.
Genesis 9 also names Ham in the story involving Noah’s vineyard and Noah’s subsequent words about Canaan. The passage is difficult and has been interpreted in different ways, but the genealogical relationship itself is stated directly: Canaan is Ham’s son.
Shem and Japheth were Noah’s other two sons. Their descendants are listed separately in Genesis 10. Methuselah, by contrast, belongs to an earlier generation in the genealogy and was Noah’s grandfather, not one of Noah’s sons.
