In Genesis, which month did the ark come to rest on the mountains of Ararat?
Answer
The seventh month
Answer
The seventh month
In Genesis, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat in the seventh month.
Genesis 8:4 gives the landing month and day: the seventeenth day of the seventh month. This occurs after the waters had prevailed for 150 days, according to the chronology in the preceding chapter.
The narrative continues with the tops of the mountains becoming visible in the tenth month. Noah later sends out birds to test whether the ground has dried, and he eventually leaves the ark after receiving God’s instruction.
The seventh-month landing date is easy to confuse with the seventeenth day of the second month, which Genesis gives for the beginning of the Flood in Noah’s 600th year. Both dates use the seventeenth day, but they describe different moments in the story.
