His wife, sons, and daughters-in-law
Answer
His wife, sons, and daughters-in-law
In Genesis, Noah entered the Ark with his wife, sons, and daughters-in-law.
Genesis 7:7 says Noah entered with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives. The sons are named elsewhere as Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Genesis does not name Noah’s wife or the wives of his sons in the main Flood narrative.
The family group therefore consists of eight people: Noah, his wife, three sons, and three daughters-in-law. This total is stated explicitly in 1 Peter 3:20, which refers to “eight souls” being saved through water, and is commonly used to summarize the Genesis account.
The wording matters because Genesis does not say Noah brought parents, siblings, servants, or grandchildren into the Ark. Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions supply additional names and interpretations, but those are not part of the basic Genesis list. The narrative presents Noah’s household as the human survivors alongside the animals.
