In Genesis, what was the stated breadth of Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, the stated breadth of Noah’s Ark was 50 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 gives three measurements for the vessel: 300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in breadth, and 30 cubits in height. The breadth is therefore the middle dimension in the biblical specification, representing the Ark’s width rather than its length or vertical height.

The exact modern length of a cubit is uncertain because ancient cubits varied. A commonly used estimate is about 44–52 centimetres, which would make 50 cubits roughly 22–26 metres. Converting the number into modern units should therefore be presented as an estimate, not as a single certain measurement.

The 50-cubit figure is easily confused with the Ark’s other dimensions. The length is 300 cubits and the height is 30 cubits. The narrative also says the Ark had lower, second, and third decks, but it does not provide a modern engineering blueprint.
