In Genesis, Noah’s grandson who became ruler of Babel is Nimrod.
Genesis 10:8–10 describes Nimrod as a mighty figure and lists the beginning of his kingdom as Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh in the land of Shinar. Nimrod is identified as a son of Cush, making him a grandson of Noah through Ham’s line.
The passage places Nimrod in the generations after the Flood and links him with several important Mesopotamian cities. Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions developed additional stories about him, but those later details are not all present in Genesis.
Nimrod is sometimes incorrectly named as Noah’s son or as the builder of the Ark. Genesis instead places the Ark with Noah and presents Nimrod as a later descendant associated with a kingdom. The name is also connected in later interpretation with the Tower of Babel tradition.
