In Genesis, what was the full length of Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, the full length of Noah’s Ark was 300 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 gives the ark’s dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Because the ancient cubit was a length based roughly on the forearm, its exact modern equivalent is uncertain. Common estimates place the ark’s length around 135 metres, or about 450 feet, but the conversion varies.

The proportions produce a long, box-like vessel rather than the rounded shape often shown in paintings and films. Genesis also describes three decks and an opening or window, along with a side door.

The dimensions belong to the biblical narrative and are not evidence that an actual vessel of that size has been found. Modern shipbuilding comparisons can illustrate the proportions, but they cannot establish the story’s historicity.
