In Genesis, what was the first altar offering Noah made after leaving the Ark?
Answer
Burnt offerings
Answer
Burnt offerings
In Genesis, Noah built an altar after leaving the Ark and made burnt offerings on it.
Genesis 8:20 says that Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and every clean bird to offer burnt offerings. This is presented immediately after Noah, his family, and the animals leave the vessel.
The passage also helps explain why the story distinguishes clean and unclean animals. Earlier, Genesis instructs Noah to take additional numbers of clean animals and birds, whereas the basic pairs are described for other creatures. The extra clean animals make the later offering possible within the narrative.
A burnt offering is not the same as a grain, incense, or peace offering. Those categories appear in other biblical ritual contexts, but Genesis specifically identifies Noah’s first post-Flood sacrifice as burnt offerings.
