In Genesis, what was the ark's height?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, the ark’s height was 30 cubits. Genesis 6:15 gives the complete dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.

The height is the smallest of the three measurements specified for the vessel. Because the cubit was an ancient unit whose length varied, converting 30 cubits into meters is approximate. A common estimate would place it at roughly 13.5 meters, but the biblical passage does not define the cubit using a modern standard.

Genesis also says the ark had three decks, or levels, as well as rooms and a window. The text does not explain the exact spacing of those decks or provide a technical shipbuilding plan. The dimensions are therefore a concise description within the story, not a complete archaeological blueprint.
