In Genesis, Noah became a farmer after leaving the Ark.
Genesis 9:20 says that Noah began to be a man of the soil and planted a vineyard. The statement appears after the flood narrative and after God’s covenant marked by the rainbow. It presents Noah returning to cultivation and establishing a new agricultural life for his family.
Noah is often associated with carpentry because Genesis describes him building the Ark. However, the text does not call his post-flood occupation carpentry. Nor does it identify him as a shepherd or fisherman. The farming description is specifically linked to planting a vineyard and later drinking wine made from its produce.
This episode also introduces one of the Bible’s stories about Noah after the flood, including his drunkenness and the actions of his sons. Those events are separate from the Ark’s construction and the flood itself, but they explain why Noah’s life in Genesis includes more than the voyage.
