In Genesis, Noah was drunk when his sons found him uncovered inside his tent after the flood.
Genesis 9:20–21 says Noah planted a vineyard, drank wine made from its produce, became drunk, and lay uncovered in his tent. The episode occurs after the flood narrative and after God’s covenant with Noah, showing that the story continues with complicated family and moral consequences rather than ending at the ark’s landing.
Ham saw his father’s nakedness and told his brothers, Shem and Japheth. They responded by covering Noah while walking backward, avoiding looking at him. After Noah awoke and learned what had happened, he pronounced statements involving Canaan, Shem, and Japheth.
This passage is often remembered only as a story about Ham, but the immediate cause is explicitly Noah’s drunkenness after cultivating a vineyard. Genesis does not say that Noah was drunk aboard the ark.
