In Genesis, what is Noah’s age when the Floodwaters have dried from the earth?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah is 601 years old when the Floodwaters have dried from the earth.

Genesis 8:13 says that in Noah’s 601st year, on the first day of the first month, the waters had dried from the earth. Noah then removes the covering of the Ark and sees that the ground surface is drying. The family does not leave immediately; Genesis later says the earth is dry on the twenty-seventh day of the second month.

This age differs from the age given when the Flood begins. Genesis 7:6 says Noah is 600 years old when the waters come upon the earth. The two statements are consecutive chronological markers, so the account places the drying of the land in the following year of Noah’s life.

A frequent mistake is to answer 600 because that is Noah’s age at the Flood’s onset. The question concerns the later stage, when the waters have dried and the Ark’s covering is removed.
