In Genesis, Noah placed a window in the Ark’s roof to let in light.
Genesis 6:16 describes the Ark as having a window, or an opening associated with illumination, near the top. English translations differ in how they render the underlying Hebrew wording. Some say “window,” while others use “opening” or describe a roof opening.
The verse also specifies a door in the Ark’s side and three decks. These details create a structured vessel with access, levels, and an upper source of light. The text does not describe a modern glazed skylight, so “window” should not automatically be understood as a glass installation.
This roof feature is separate from the later birds Noah sends out. The raven and dove are released to test the condition of the outside world, whereas the roof opening is part of the Ark’s original construction instructions.
