In Genesis, what age was Noah when he entered the Ark with his family?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah was 600 years old when he entered the Ark with his family.

Genesis 7:6 gives Noah’s age as six hundred years when the Flood waters came upon the earth. Genesis 7:7 then describes Noah, his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives entering the Ark to escape the waters. The age therefore belongs to the Flood-era entry, not to the beginning of Noah’s life or the end of it.

Genesis later says Noah lived 350 years after the Flood and died at 950. That later age is frequently confused with his age when he boarded the Ark. The story also identifies his three sons as Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

The narrative does not give a separate age for each member of Noah’s family at entry. It provides Noah’s age and names the family groups who accompanied him.
