In Genesis, on which day of Noah’s 601st year did the Floodwaters dry from the earth?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, the Floodwaters had dried from the earth on the first day of the first month of Noah’s 601st year.

Genesis 8:13 says Noah removed the covering of the Ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry on that date. The verse distinguishes between the ground being dry and the later point when God told Noah to leave the Ark.

This date is part of a detailed chronology. The Ark rested on the mountains of Ararat during the seventh month, mountain tops became visible in the tenth month, and Noah sent out the raven and dove afterward. The final departure occurred only after God gave instructions.

The date is not the same as the day the Flood began or the day the Ark rested. Genesis’s changing references to months and Noah’s age can make the sequence difficult to follow, especially across translations that use different calendar terminology.
