In Genesis, how wide was Noah’s Ark, measured in cubits?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah’s Ark is said to be 50 cubits wide.

Genesis 6:15 records the Ark’s dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. These figures form the basic geometric description of the vessel in the Hebrew Bible’s flood narrative.

Because the cubit was an ancient unit rather than a fixed international measurement, the width cannot be converted into one certain modern figure. A 45-centimetre cubit would make 50 cubits approximately 22.5 metres.

The width is sometimes confused with the Ark’s height or length because the three numbers are quoted together. The biblical account gives dimensions, but it does not provide a surviving blueprint or archaeological evidence establishing the vessel’s physical construction.
