In Genesis, how many human beings entered Noah’s Ark and survived the Flood?
Answer
Eight people
Answer
Eight people
In Genesis, eight people entered Noah’s Ark and survived the Flood.
The eight are Noah, his wife, his three sons, and the wives of those three sons. Genesis 7:13 describes the family entering the ark, while 1 Peter 3:20 later summarizes the number of people saved through the water as eight. The total therefore counts Noah’s household, not just Noah and his sons.
This number is easy to confuse with other biblical totals. Genesis names Noah’s three sons, but it does not name their wives. The story also contains numerous animals, so “eight” applies only to human survivors in the ark, not to every living passenger.
The New Testament uses the Flood survivors in a theological comparison, but the underlying numerical detail comes from the Genesis narrative’s family list and later biblical references. No additional human survivors are identified in the account.
