In Finding Dory, the cranky octopus who helps Dory navigate the Marine Life Institute is Hank.
Hank is a brusque but fundamentally kind East Pacific red octopus voiced by Ed O’Neill. He meets Dory while she is in quarantine and agrees to help her locate her parents in exchange for her identification tag. Hank wants the tag because he hopes to be transferred to an aquarium in Cleveland, where he imagines he can live quietly away from the open ocean.
Hank is often called a “septopus” because he has seven arms rather than the usual eight. The missing arm is part of his character design and becomes a visual reminder of his guarded, world-weary personality. Despite initially treating Dory as a means to an end, he eventually risks himself to rescue her and the other animals.
Destiny is a whale shark, while Bailey is a beluga whale. Rudder and Fluke are California sea lions who help Dory’s friends.
