In 'Cinderella', what is the name of the wicked stepmother?

The story behind the answer

In “Cinderella,” the wicked stepmother is Lady Tremaine.

Lady Tremaine is the central villain of Disney’s 1950 animated film. After Cinderella’s father dies, she turns the household against her stepdaughter, allowing her own daughters, Anastasia and Drizella, to live in comfort while Cinderella works as a servant. Her cruelty is controlled and calculating rather than loud or theatrical.

Tremaine tries to prevent Cinderella from attending the royal ball by burdening her with chores and allowing the stepsisters to destroy her dress. After Cinderella returns from the ball, Tremaine realizes she is the mysterious girl who danced with Prince Charming. She locks Cinderella in the attic and attempts to stop the royal slipper test, but Cinderella ultimately proves her identity.

A common mix-up is calling her simply “the evil stepmother.” That description is correct, but Lady Tremaine is her Disney name. The character is based on the unnamed wicked stepmother in Charles Perrault’s Cinderella fairy tale. Eleanor Audley provided her voice in the 1950 film.
