In Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, the wormhole is located near Saturn.
The wormhole provides the route from Earth’s solar system to a distant galaxy containing potentially habitable worlds. In the film’s story, its appearance near Saturn makes the journey possible for the astronauts aboard the Endurance.
Interstellar was released in 2014 and follows former NASA pilot Cooper as he joins a mission to search for a new home for humanity. The film combines fictional space travel with ideas drawn from real physics, including gravitational time dilation and the behavior of wormholes.
A wormhole is a hypothetical shortcut connecting distant points in spacetime; it is not the same thing as the black hole Gargantua, which the crew encounters later. Saturn is therefore the planet associated with the entrance to the wormhole, while Gargantua is the massive black hole at the center of the mission’s planetary system.
