In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Ezio works to liberate Rome from Templar control.
Brotherhood is set primarily in Rome during the early sixteenth century. After the Borgia family attacks Monteriggioni, Ezio travels to Rome and confronts Cesare Borgia, whose forces and political power dominate much of the city.
The game turns Rome itself into a strategic objective. Ezio recruits and trains new Assassins, destroys military towers, restores shops and landmarks, and weakens Borgia influence across different districts. These activities support the broader goal of rebuilding the Brotherhood.
Rome is not merely a backdrop: it is the game's principal open-world location and the center of its political conflict. Florence belongs chiefly to Ezio's earlier story in Assassin's Creed II, while Constantinople is the main setting of Assassin's Creed Revelations.
