Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set during which ancient Greek war?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set during the Peloponnesian War.

Released in 2018, Odyssey takes place in ancient Greece during the conflict between Athens and Sparta. The historical storyline begins in 431 BCE, the opening year traditionally associated with the Peloponnesian War. Players explore a large version of the Greek world, including mainland regions and islands, while becoming involved in political, military, and family conflicts.

The playable protagonist can be Alexios or Kassandra, with the player's choice affecting the presentation of the story. This choice is separate from the war itself, which remains the principal historical backdrop. The Persian Wars occurred earlier, while the Punic Wars were fought later between Rome and Carthage. Odyssey also predates Assassin's Creed Origins chronologically, although Origins was released first and explains the formation of the Hidden Ones.
