Abstergo Industries operates the Animus facility in Assassin's Creed's modern-day storyline.

Abstergo is a massive multinational corporation controlled by the modern Templar Order. It uses Animus technology to examine genetic memories inherited through a subject's DNA. In the first game, Desmond Miles is forced to relive Altaïr's memories inside an Abstergo facility under the supervision of Warren Vidic.

The company publicly presents itself as a legitimate business with interests in areas such as pharmaceuticals, technology, and entertainment. Its hidden Templar purpose is to locate Pieces of Eden and shape society through surveillance and control.

Abstergo is not the name of the machine itself: the machine is the Animus. Later games introduce related products and organizations, including Abstergo Entertainment and the Helix system, which makes the company-versus-device distinction important.
