Which year did Assassin's Creed III first release?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed III first released in 2012.

Ubisoft released the game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2012, followed by a Windows release in November. It was a major numbered entry in the series and shifted the historical setting to North America during the American Revolution.

The game follows Ratonhnhaké:ton, who is commonly called Connor, as he becomes an Assassin and confronts Templars amid the conflict between the American colonies and Great Britain. Boston and New York are important urban locations, while a large frontier region supports hunting, exploration, and travel.

The game also continues Desmond Miles's modern-day storyline. Its release year is sometimes confused with 2011 because Assassin's Creed Revelations arrived then. Assassin's Creed III followed in 2012 and introduced a new historical protagonist, setting, and version of the game engine.
