In Arthur Christmas, Santa’s older brother who is next in line to lead the North Pole is Steve.
Steve Claus is the organized, technology-focused son of Santa Claus. He oversees the enormous modern operation that delivers presents worldwide, relying on a huge high-tech sleigh and an elaborate command center. His efficiency contrasts with Arthur’s clumsier but deeply compassionate nature.
When one child’s present is accidentally missed, Arthur sets out to correct the mistake. The adventure creates tension between the brothers and questions whether a perfect delivery system can replace personal care. Steve is ambitious and capable, but he initially treats Christmas as a logistical operation.
The 2011 animated film was produced by Aardman Animations and Sony Pictures Animation. James McAvoy voices Arthur, while Hugh Laurie voices Steve and Bill Nighy voices Santa. Sarah Smith directed the film, which combines computer animation with a family story about responsibility and empathy.
