In 'Alice in Wonderland', what is the name of the cat?
Answer
Cheshire Cat
Answer
Cheshire Cat
In Alice in Wonderland, the cat is the Cheshire Cat.
The Cheshire Cat is one of Wonderland’s most mysterious figures. In Disney’s 1951 animated film, he has pink-and-purple stripes, a broad permanent grin, and the ability to appear or disappear gradually. He gives Alice advice, but his riddling comments often make her journey more confusing rather than easier.
The character comes from Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Carroll’s Cheshire Cat is similarly elusive and philosophical, though Disney emphasizes the character’s visual comedy and mischievous personality. Sterling Holloway, also famous as the voice of Winnie the Pooh, provided the Cheshire Cat’s voice in the Disney film.
The other choices are important Wonderland characters but are not cats: the Queen of Hearts is the ruler who orders executions, the Mad Hatter hosts the nonsensical tea party, and the White Rabbit leads Alice into Wonderland. Alice also has a real pet cat named Dinah, which is a separate character and the main source of occasional confusion.
