#IAmAnas supported which Ghanaian investigative journalist?
Answer
Anas Aremeyaw Anas
Answer
Anas Aremeyaw Anas
#IAmAnas supported Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The hashtag celebrated his undercover reporting and his deliberate use of anonymity while investigating corruption and other abuses.
The campaign began in 2015, as supporters used social media to identify with Anas and defend his investigative work. His public persona is closely associated with disguises and a concealed identity, which he has described as an important tool for reporting safely. He worked with Tiger Eye Private Investigations and focused especially on corruption and human-rights issues in Ghana and elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa.
#IAmAnas gained renewed attention in 2018 after politician Kennedy Agyapong said he would reveal the journalist’s identity following Anas’s football-corruption investigation. Users responded by sharing photographs of themselves, strangers, and even comic images while claiming, symbolically, to be Anas. The campaign therefore expressed solidarity rather than identifying a different journalist. Kweku Baako was an editor and supporter connected with Anas’s career, not the person the hashtag supported.
