How tall does Genesis say Noah's Ark was?

The story behind the answer

Genesis says Noah’s Ark was 30 cubits high.

The height is part of the three-part specification in Genesis 6:15: the ark measured 300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in width, and 30 cubits in height. The text does not provide a modern unit conversion, because the cubit could vary by time and place.

Using an approximate cubit of 45 centimetres, 30 cubits would be around 13.5 metres. This is an estimate rather than an exact measurement. The account also says the ark had three decks, which helps explain how its internal space could be arranged.

The dimensions have inspired modern replicas and engineering studies. Such projects can test the stability of a large rectangular vessel, but they cannot establish the historical occurrence of the flood or prove that a physical ark survived.
