Genesis states that Noah was six hundred years old when the waters of the Flood came upon the earth. This age appears within a genealogy and chronology in which early biblical figures are described as living for exceptionally long periods. The account also says Noah was 601 when the ground had become dry.

The age is therefore not the same as the length of the Flood. The narrative’s chronology distinguishes Noah’s age at the beginning from his age when he left the ark. Genesis later records that Noah lived another 350 years after the Flood and died at the age of 950.
