How old was Noah when he entered the ark, according to the Book of Genesis?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah was 600 years old when he entered the ark.

Genesis 7:6 states that Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came upon the earth. This age is part of the genealogical framework of Genesis, where important events are dated by the ages of patriarchs.

Noah's age at the flood is not the same as his age at death. Genesis 9:28 says that Noah lived another 350 years after the flood, dying at the age of 950. The text therefore places his life among the unusually long lifespans recorded for early biblical figures.

The account also names Noah's three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—as members of the ark's human passengers. Their ages are not given when the flood begins.
