How much RAM did the original Xbox include?
Answer
64 MB
Answer
64 MB
The original Xbox included 64 MB of DDR SDRAM.
Microsoft equipped its first console with unified memory, meaning the same main memory pool could be used by the CPU, graphics hardware, and other system functions. The memory operated at 200 MHz and was supplied by several manufacturers, including Micron and Hynix.
The 64 MB figure is sometimes mixed up with storage capacity. The original Xbox also included an internal hard disk, but that disk stored game data, downloaded content, and saved games rather than serving as the console’s working RAM. The system had no memory-card requirement for ordinary save storage because of that hard disk.
Later Xbox hardware used different memory arrangements. The Xbox 360 included 512 MB of unified memory, while the Xbox One used 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Those larger numbers reflect later generations and should not be attributed to the original Xbox.
