The original Xbox One launch model provided 500 GB of internal storage. Microsoft released the console in November 2013 with a fixed hard disk intended for games, applications, downloadable content, and system data.
Unlike the Xbox 360, the original Xbox One did not offer a user-replaceable internal drive through a simple consumer upgrade path. Players could instead attach compatible external USB storage, a useful option as large digital games and mandatory installations became increasingly common.
Later Xbox One versions changed the storage configuration. The Xbox One S was sold with capacities including 500 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB, while the Xbox One X commonly shipped with 1 TB. Those later capacities should not be projected backward onto the launch model, whose standard internal drive was 500 GB.
