How many years did Noah live in total, according to Genesis?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah lived for 950 years in total.

Genesis 9:28–29 says Noah lived 350 years after the Flood and that his whole lifespan was 950 years. This is different from the 600 years Genesis gives for Noah’s age when the Flood began. Adding the 350 post-Flood years to his age at the Flood produces the stated total.

The number belongs to the long lifespans recorded in Genesis 5 and 9. Those genealogical ages are part of the text’s primeval history and are interpreted differently by religious traditions and modern scholars. They should not be treated as an ordinary modern life-expectancy statistic.

Noah’s age at the Flood and his final lifespan are both explicit numbers, but they answer different questions. The first concerns the Flood’s chronology; the second concerns the length of Noah’s life.
