Genesis says Noah placed one window in the Ark.
Genesis 6:16 describes the vessel’s structure and instructs Noah to make a window, or an opening associated with a window, near the top. English translations differ in how they render the underlying Hebrew term and the surrounding construction details, but the passage is singular rather than specifying a row of windows.
The window becomes important later in the narrative. After the waters recede, Noah first sends out a raven and then sends a dove at intervals to test whether the ground has become dry. The dove eventually returns with a freshly plucked olive leaf, and later does not return after another release.
Illustrations and movie versions often show many openings, decks, or large windows because artists must visualize the Ark. Those designs are not a precise count supplied by Genesis. The biblical description gives one specified window or opening, along with a door and multiple internal compartments.
