The Metallica Blacklist contained 53 tracks as a covers album tied to The Black Album’s 30th anniversary.
It was released on September 10, 2021, alongside the expanded anniversary reissue of Metallica. More than 50 artists contributed versions of songs from the album, interpreting the material in styles that ranged across rock, pop, hip-hop, country, and other genres.
The project was not a second Metallica studio album. It was a large tribute collection built around covers, and its proceeds were directed to Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and charities selected by participating artists.
The number can be confused with the original album’s track count or with the number of musicians involved. The 1991 studio album has 12 tracks in its original sequence, whereas The Metallica Blacklist expanded the anniversary project to 53 recordings.
