The Metallica Blacklist contained 53 tracks and marked The Black Album's 30th anniversary.
Released on September 10, 2021, the project collected cover versions of songs from Metallica's 1991 album. More than 50 artists contributed interpretations in different styles, making it an unusually broad tribute to a single heavy-metal record.
The project was released alongside a remastered edition of Metallica and a large anniversary box set. Together, the releases revisited the album through remixes, demos, live performances, archival material, and new cover versions.
The Blacklist was also tied to charitable giving. Profits went to Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation and to charities selected by the participating artists. Its 53-track total is therefore distinct from the 12-track original album.
